Story
Merrick Shellfish was founded in 2021 by diver and fisherman Evan Merrick O’Brien, with the goal of creating markets for underutilized species abundant in the pristine waters around Sitka.
While diving for sea cucumbers in Alaska’s established commercial dive fishery, Evan occasionally swam over massive beds of swimming pink scallops. This started him down the slow and arduous path of establishing a new commercial fishery. With a nudge from some adventurous coastal eaters, he soon began developing a market for Alaskan gooseneck barnacles as well.
Merrick Shellfish is an extension of the joy in sharing novel and delicious seafoods with friends and family. We aim to introduce as many people as we can to bizarre and delightful ocean delicacies.
